The bindrune painted onto this skull was designed by May Oakmund as a complete working symbol for the altar: Algiz to ward off negative energy, Gebo to honour the Gods, Othala to anchor spiritual energy, Sowilo to bring divine light to altar work, and Wunjo to invite harmony and peace to the space and to yourself. A pentacle completes the composition, representing the five elements and grounding the whole symbol in the balance between human and nature. Together they form a powerful binding of protection, balance and spiritual connection that works across traditions and practices.

The magpie is not an arbitrary choice of vessel. Associated across cultures with magic, with the threshold between worlds, with intelligence and the carrying of messages, it is a natural home for a symbol of this intention.
