In Norse mythology, Yggdrasil ( the tree of life) was a huge ash tree. Its evergreen
crown reaches all the way to the sky, and its three roots end in three different
worlds: one in the underground Hel, where the dragon Nidhug gnaws in it
and where Urd's well is located. The second leads past Mimer's well to
Jotunheim. The third passes Hvergelmer and leads to Niflheim. During Ragnarok, the tree is uprooted and burned as a result of the great forest fires that are raging at that time.
