HEILL - WOLF BINDRUNE CANVAS
Heill - Old Norse for "whole, healthy, fortunate."
Heill is a wolf caught in the wild and bound into Norse art that doesn't separate the photograph from the symbol. A professionally shot image of the animal forms the base of this gallery canvas, and Isar Oakmund has worked directly into it: a Ringerike-style knotwork wolf coiling through the composition, alongside hand-drawn staves and bindrunes.
The bindrune work isn't decoration for its own sake. Isar built three intentions into this piece: protection under the old gods, blessings of good health and long life, and the kind of fortune that comes from wealth held honestly. Ringerike's interlocking, near-serpentine linework was the natural choice for a wolf piece, knotwork that tightens and releases the way the animal moves.
Printed on canvas at 40 x 60cm, gallery wrapped and ready to hang straight out of the box.
