What is an online rune reading?
An online rune reading is a personalised interpretation of runes cast by an experienced reader, May Oakmund, performed remotely and sent to you by email. Each reading uses the Elder Futhark rune stones to offer guidance or reflection.
How do I receive my reading?
After purchase, you’ll get an email confirmation. Include your question in the “Add an optional note” box at checkout. Your completed reading will be sent via written email (and may also include a short video).
Who performs the readings?
All readings are performed by May Oakmund, Northern Black’s resident rune-worker and practitioner of Norse spiritual arts. She had worked with the runes for many years and had both published her own works on bindrunes, as well as co-authored books with Isar Oakmund. Her insight into the runes is rooted in tradition and refreshed with a modern perception, suitable to the times we live in.
How long does it take to receive my rune reading?
- Single Rune: within 48 hours
- Three Rune Spread: within 7 days
Five Rune Cross / Runic Compass: within 14 days during busy times.
What information should I include?
Use the note box to describe your question, concern, or situation in as much detail as feels right — especially for the Five Rune Cross and Runic Compass readings.
Are these the same as tarot card readings?
No. Rune stone readings predate tarot by centuries. Each rune is a sacred symbol of natural and cosmic power, not part of a fixed card system. While their meaning was first penned in Scandinavia and England in medieval times, they were applied for hundreds of years before the scribes noted their interpretations down.
Do rune readings predict the future?
Not precisely. The stones reveal the energies shaping your present and possible paths forward — they show what’s in motion, not what’s guaranteed. Like many types of augury and spiritual cards, they hold both practical and spiritual magic, able to give insight into one's own psychology and the flow of one's life.
Are rune readings accurate?
