MYTHICAL BEAST NECKLACE

The Mythical Beast in Borre Style pendant carries one of the Viking Age's most recognisable art forms onto the body. The design is built on the Borre style's signature grip: symmetrically arranged animals with bird-like heads and powerfully modelled limbs, locked within a circular frame - decorative and unmistakably Norse.

The Vikings read beast and serpent imagery like this as more than decoration. A creature capable of forming circles, squares, and other significant shapes was a powerful motif - a guardian of the underworld and its treasures, and, through the shedding of skin, a symbol of immortality.
