The Hedeby Coin Earrings reproduce Scandinavia's first minted coin - struck around 900 AD in Hedeby, near Schleswig, then part of Denmark. The original is held at the Viking Museum Haithabu in Schleswig, Germany, and each earring is cast true to scale at 32 x 12 mm.

Hedeby's coinage carried the image of a ship, and for good reason. The Vikings' light, fast vessels were the engine of the age - they carried raiding parties, ferried goods and people along the trade routes, and pushed into territory no one had reached before. A coin minted in one of Scandinavia's busiest trading towns, stamped with a ship, is as much a record of that world as any saga.

Sold as a matched pair, cast at true scale to the original find, worn as a small, everyday piece of Viking Age history.
